Plantar plate tear treatment in Manly.

Manly Foot Clinic in North Manly, NSW, assesses and treats plantar Plate Tear for patients across the Northern Beaches and North Shore. Injury to the ligament under the toe joint, causing ball-of-foot pain and a toe that drifts or lifts.

What Is Plantar Plate Tear?

The plantar plate is a strong ligament under each of the small toe joints that holds the toe in position. When it’s strained or torn, often under the second toe, it causes pain and swelling under the ball of the foot. Over time the toe may start to drift toward its neighbour or lift upward, sometimes crossing over the big toe. It’s commonly associated with bunions, a long second toe and high-heeled shoes. Early treatment uses strapping, offloading padding, stiffer footwear and orthoses. Where the toe has become unstable or deformed, surgical repair or realignment may be considered.

Plantar Plate Tear FAQs

No, you can book directly without a referral. If you’d like, we’ll send a short report to your GP after your appointment so your foot care stays part of your overall health record. If your appointment is through a Medicare care plan, DVA or another funded program, you will need a referral, so check with us when you book.

If your policy includes podiatry, yes. All major private health funds recognise the clinic, and podiatry is covered under extras rather than hospital cover. How much you get back depends on your level of extras and how much of your annual limit you’ve already used. Bring your health fund card and we can process your claim on the spot, so you only pay the gap. For an exact figure, ask your fund for the rebate on the specific service before your appointment. We can give you the item number to quote.
