Foot and Ankle Care for Brookvale

Brookvale is the clinic’s nearest neighbour. It is 1.7 kilometres from Corrie Road, a few minutes down Pittwater Road, which makes it the closest of the five suburbs Manly Foot Clinic serves. It is also the least residential: 3,389 people lived there at the 2021 census, but the daytime population is many times that, because Brookvale is the Northern Beaches’ industrial and retail engine.

A suburb that stands up all day

Brookvale is a major industrial area with a fast-growing business community, and it holds Warringah Mall, the largest shopping centre on the Northern Beaches. Between the warehouses, workshops, trade counters, kitchens and shop floors, a very large number of people spend a working day standing on concrete, in boots or in flat non-supportive shoes.

That is not an incidental detail, because it is one of the mechanisms the clinic has described for years in its own words: wearing non-supportive footwear on hard, flat surfaces puts an abnormal strain on the plantar fascia and can also lead to plantar fasciosis. This is particularly evident when one’s job requires long hours on the feet.

Heel pain, forefoot pain, callus and nail problems in people who cannot simply sit down for a fortnight are a normal part of the clinic’s week, and treatment for a tradesperson or a retail worker has to fit around a shift rather than replace it. Being four minutes away helps: an appointment can happen at either end of a working day.

The landmarks you pass on the way

Coming south from Brookvale you join Pittwater Road near Warringah Mall and pass Brookvale Oval on the way, then cross into North Manly. Corrie Road is a side street off Pittwater Road. If you reach Nolan Reserve you have gone about six hundred metres too far.

Both bus routes that stop near the clinic pass through Brookvale: the 167, which terminates at Warringah Mall, and the 199, which runs the length of Pittwater Road between Palm Beach and Manly. From the Mall it is a short ride or a walk of a little over a kilometre.

No, you can book directly without a referral. If you’d like, we’ll send a short report to your GP after your appointment so your foot care stays part of your overall health record. If your appointment is through a Medicare care plan, DVA or another funded program, you will need a referral, so check with us when you book.

If your policy includes podiatry, yes. All major private health funds recognise the clinic, and podiatry is covered under extras rather than hospital cover. How much you get back depends on your level of extras and how much of your annual limit you’ve already used. Bring your health fund card and we can process your claim on the spot, so you only pay the gap. For an exact figure, ask your fund for the rebate on the specific service before your appointment. We can give you the item number to quote.
